Six Years of Championing a Place for Children

In January 2026, Officer Keywon C. Brown received the Children's Museum of Fond du Lac Board Service Honor for his six years of service to the Museum and its staff. Over that time, Officer Brown reached the bylaw-stated maximum term for board service, bringing to a close a chapter he had treated not as an obligation, but as a privilege.

His impact on the Museum was felt in ways that were both silent and bold. Some contributions were quiet, the kind of steady, behind-the-scenes support that an organization only fully appreciates in hindsight. Others were visible and decisive, stepping forward when the Museum needed a voice, a plan, or a champion willing to stand up for its mission.

Each of those contributions, large and small, had a positive impact on the collective ability of the Museum to provide educational, playful, and fun activities that support healthy child development in the Fond du Lac community.

Leadership and Support

Throughout his years of involvement, Officer Brown served the Children's Museum of Fond du Lac in a number of roles, each reflecting a different way of investing in the children and families the Museum serves:

Board Member, 2020 to 2025.

Family Member, 2020 to 2023.

Young At Heart Supporter since 2020.

Museums for All Supporter since 2020.

Inclusion Advisor, 2021 to 2024.

"Pulling It Together" Event Co-Chair, 2024.

Code Adam Staff Training, 2025.

A Champion for Children, On and Off Duty

The Museum's mission and Officer Brown's calling as a police officer and forensic interviewer share a common center: the well-being of children. A children's museum is a place where curiosity is protected, where families gather to learn and play, and where a community tells its youngest members that they are valued. Officer Brown approached his board service with that same belief.

As an Inclusion Advisor, he helped ensure that the Museum's programs and spaces welcomed every child and every family, working so that no child was left on the outside of the play and learning the Museum offers. That work echoed the same commitment to access and dignity reflected in his support of the Museums for All program, which lowers the barriers that keep families from walking through the door.

Serving as Co-Chair of the "Pulling It Together" event in 2024 placed Officer Brown at the center of one of the Museum's most important community gatherings, helping bring people together in support of a shared cause. His work on Code Adam staff training in 2025 brought his law enforcement expertise directly into the Museum, helping prepare staff to respond quickly and protect a child in the rare, frightening moment when one goes missing.

More Than a Term Completed

Reaching the maximum term set by the bylaws meant that Officer Brown's formal board service had run its course, but the relationships and the work he helped build remain. The honor was not simply a recognition of time served; it was a recognition of the difference one champion can make when he treats a community institution as his own.

For Officer Brown, the Board Service Honor stands alongside the other recognitions on this wall as a reminder that service to a community takes many forms. Sometimes it is a rescue in a river. Sometimes it is a painstaking investigation. And sometimes it is six quiet years spent making sure the children of Fond du Lac have a place to laugh, to learn, and to simply be children.

Officer Keywon C. Brown remains a Young At Heart Supporter and a Museums for All Supporter, and he carries forward the same belief that guided his board service: that every child in this community deserves a place where they are safe, welcomed, and encouraged to grow.
